The Skellig Coast’s Church Island 1hr Tour
When visiting Church Island, located inside Valentia Harbour, explorers will climb and gaze at a unique and fully restored 6th-century Monastery on the Skellig Coast. It was here on Church Island where the monks encountered the Vikings, who established a settlement on Beginish Island only 200 meters away during the early 8th century.
Be fully absorbed in Celtic history as your guide transports you to a time of peace and tranquillity when the Monks lived off the land in wait for the next adventure. On departing Church Island, you will be engrossed in some local myths and folklore of strange goings-on within these remote Islands. Here you can decide whether these tales could be true or whether they are just old island myths.
Please Note – This tour involves climbing uneven surfaces to access Church Island.
If individuals cannot climb the island, the tour can still be enjoyed from the water’s edge while enjoying the comfort onboard ‘The Navigator’.
